The West Tennessee Great War Project was established as part of the work of the Tennessee Great War Commission, and focuses exclusively on the area of Tennessee West of the Tennessee River. The Great War Commission was established in 2014 to develop and execute projects and activities that facilitate recognition of the 100 year anniversary of World War I. The West Tennessee Great War Project aims to:
- gather the stories of those Tennesseans who served before and during the American involvement in the war.
- offer through the University of Tennessee at Martin a resource for students of the Great War, and
- invite the public to the many commemorative events to be held in Tennessee between 2015 and 2019.
