Admission to Student Teaching will be granted if students:

Note: Student Teaching Application Request for Placement must be submitted to the Office of Educator Preparation Program by the application deadline. This should be filed one semester prior to the intended semester for the student teaching experience.

  • Must be admitted to Educator Preparation Program
  • Complete and submit the appropriate application one semester in advance of the Student Teaching Semester by the deadline
  • Have a cumulative 2.75 GPA on all courses taken
  • Have a 2.75 GPA in teaching specialty area
  • Complete a minimum of 80% of course work in the endorsement area(s) including all methods courses
  • Pass ALL Praxis exams required for licensure in declared major.*

*The State Department of Education establishes passing scores for the CORE, Praxis II Subject Assessments, and Principles of Learning and Teaching exams. The scores are subject to change each year.

Student Teaching Application Information
If the deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the application will be due the following Monday. Permanent deadlines for student teaching applications are:

September 30 for the following Spring Semester
January 30 for the following Fall Semester

Request for Deadline Extension of Praxis Score Results

Passing scores for all required Praxis exams must be received in the Office of Educator Preparation Program by the last day of the semester before student teaching begins. Students unable to meet the stated deadline must schedule an appointment with the Field Placement Coordinator (Melissa Akins, 205C) to discuss individual circumstances preventing them from meeting the deadline.

Request for Extension - This extension only allows the student to report their Praxis scores after the deadline, this does not allow you to student teach without passing the Praxis exam.

Important Note

The Spring 2023 mandatory Student Teaching Seminar will be held January 2-5, 2023. The seminar will be three days, January 2-4, of virtual learning and one day, January 5, in person. This is a mandatory seminar for undergraduates and graduate students. You cannot student teach if you do not complete the virtual and in-person seminar. Please plan accordingly. Information will be provided at the “Information Meeting” on November 30th @ 4pm in the Gooch Auditorium.

    • Once you complete the application you will receive an email stating we have received your application. You will receive updates by email (UTM email only) until the Information Meeting on November 30th.

Deadline

Strict placement request deadlines prohibit late application submissions

The Coordinator of Field Placements, Ms. Melissa Akins, is the only person who should contact a school or central office regarding placements. Students will not attempt to contact schools under any circumstances. All students will be notified once placements have been secured. Welcome to Residency II! All candidates are required to develop and maintain a “Residency II” notebook throughout the experience. It is important that all notebook items are organized and kept up-to-date as this will be reviewed by the University Supervisor during each observation visit
